The End of a Decade

Here we are, coming to the end of 2019.  Man, 2020 seems weird.  I recall as a child I would think about the future and how far away 2020 (The Space Odyssey) was and how old I would be.  Where did that time go?  In retrospect, it seems like it was a blink of an eye.

I also think back to standing on the roof at Nucleus on New Year’s eve 2000.  It has been 20 years since that crazy night when everyone was on edge over the tech apocalypse that never happened.  We stood up there and watched the fireworks and drank champagne.  I refer to that night as my ‘Scarface’ moment.  In Scarface, mid way through the movie he is on top of the world and that is how I felt.  If you seen the movie things kind of go down hill from there.  I haven’t been in any gun fights but let’s just say that was definitely my high point.

I find the hardest thing about getting older is losing the dreams.  Maybe one day I will do this or that.  I now know I have done what I am going to do for the most part… not much is going to change from here on in.  Some days that is a harder pill to swallow than others. There is no such thing as the ‘Golden Years’. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Live for today, chase your dreams.  Before you know it, it will be too late.

Grandson Number 4!

Welcome to Orson Thomas Maku (Mark in Japanese) McDonald born April 29th, 2019 weighing in at 7 lbs. 8 ozs., he has already stolen our hearts!

What started with just the two of us is now a clan of ten.  Nothing makes Cheryl happier than to get the whole crowd in one place. 🙂

A new addition

We are so pleased to announce the arrival of the newest McDonald, who made his first appearance October 27, 2016 at 6:45 PM MDT weighing in at 8 pounds 4 ounces and 21.2 inches long. Welcome to the family, Casper Morris Yoshimi McDonald! Congrats to Matt and Kim.

63rd Annual Alberta Japanese Canadian (JC) Bonspiel

30 years of chasing the dream and now I have won the A Event in the JC Bonspiel. Cheryl played Third (her second A Event win as she won a Ladies event) and I was playing Second. Her brother Rick played Skip and his stepson, Steven, was playing Lead.  Unfortunately, we had to play the kids on the way through but they came second in the Horse Race and 3rd/4th in the A Event so nothing to be ashamed of and they are still young. 🙂  You can see all the winners here.

It was an awesome family weekend and a JC I will never forget!

Matthew gets engaged!

Our baby Matthew got engaged today, to a wonderful young lady by the name of Kimberley Jetté.  I am so excited for them both and we are looking forward to the nuptials November 2015!!

Hawaii 2007

Found this slideshow during the same project at work. It was a very emotional trip for me as we all knew it was the last one that would be just the four of us. I will always have cherished memories from this trip, I would say the best vacation we had as a family.

A Beginning

Well since getting this domain for the email addresses I have been struggling with what I will use the website for.  It is obvious that it needs to be about my family but what is the content that will make up the site?  I stumbled across an old website during a recent project at work and it came to me that I can make this a historical account of our journey as a family and more importantly to me, catalog the legacy I am going to leave behind.  I realized during a search of my family tree that this information will be very interesting to future generations.  I hope that I can entice other members of my family to post articles in the future but you have to start somewhere.  Please enjoy reading through Trisha’s web page circa 2001:
